High-Quality Pearls

As a consumer, how are you supposed to know which pearls are the highest quality? It seems like every vendor says it has high-quality pearls but how do you know they're telling the truth? There’s no universal standard for high-quality pearls so the whole process can get confusing.

Kyllonen Luxury only carries the highest quality pearls and we decide which pearls are of the highest quality through a meticulous scale of our own creation - which we will discuss later in this piece. There are four general standards for pearl quality that Kyllonen recognizes and sells in store - Gem grade, Near Gem grade, AAA, and AA+.

Here is everything you need to know about high-quality pearls:

How to Determine the Highest Quality Pearls

Finding and determining high-quality pearls is a time-consuming and meticulous task. Each vendor has a different system, but at Kyllonen Luxury, we strive for excellence when determining pearl quality. We do this by comparing each and every pearl that comes our way to a uniform set of pre-determined pearls.

These pre-determined pearls are of the four standard grades: Gem, Near Gem, AAA, and AA+. We compare every pearl to this uniform set and whichever grade it matches closest with is its set quality. This system guarantees a uniform pearl grading structure and therefore a justified selling price.

High-Quality Pearls: From the Highest Quality to the Lowest

As we previously stated, Kyllonen uses the Gem - AA+ grading scale, otherwise known as the Kyllonen scale. This scale is ideal for finding the highest quality pearls the Earth has to offer. Most vendors only sell AAA pearls and lower. Kyllonen Luxury goes a step further by seeking out Gem and Near Gem grade pearls. Gem grade pearls are the absolute highest quality pearls found in all the oceans.

Gem Grade Pearls

Gem grade pearls are the most exquisite gems you can find anywhere. These pearls are the highest quality known to man. Besides their beauty, there are a few specific quality factors that make a pearl Gem quality:

  • Luster: Excellent
  • Surface: No visible blemishes to the naked eye
  • Color: High saturation

Near Gem Grade Pearls

Right behind Gem grade pearls comes Near Gem grade pearls. Near Gem grade pearls have the same luster qualities as Gem grade but differ in various qualities. A few of these quality factors are:

  • Luster: Excellent
  • Surface: Slight blemishes to the naked eye (1 or more)
  • Color: High saturation

AAA Grade Pearls

AAA pearls are the highest quality that most vendors carry. They fall third on the highest quality list in Kyllonen’s standards. These pearls are still extremely beautiful, but they do differ in a few quality factors such as:

  • Luster: Near excellent luster
  • Surface: No visible blemishes to the naked eye
  • Color: Very Good saturation

AA+ Grade Pearls

AA+ pearls are the lowest quality pearls that Kyllonen Luxury carries. And although the most affordable option, these pearls are still beauties. They are lower quality in terms of luster, shape, color, and surface blemishes but they still hold extreme value on the market. The significant quality factors of these pearls are:

  • Luster: Near excellent luster
  • Surface: Slight blemishes to the naked eye (1 or more)
  • Color: Medium to Very Good saturation

A Grade Pearls

A grade pearls are not sold by Kyllonen Luxury. These pearls are beautiful but are not near the highest quality. They carry good luster, medium saturation, and various surface blemishes which are clearly visible when worn. If you see a vendor selling A grade pearls, you’re better off going with a different source.

Overall, determining which pearls are high quality is a subjective process, but Kyllonen Luxury strives to make it uniform. Our standard measurements give us the unique opportunity to provide you with the highest quality pearls on the market. Browse our selection of high-quality Gem grade pearl jewelry today!
